What is the Productivity Places Program?
The Australian Government is committed to increasing the skill level in Australia. As part of its “Skilling Australia for the future” policy (Skills Australia Act 2008), the Productivity Places Program is an Australian Government, fully funded training program to enable jobseekers to gain skills needed for finding employment.
For those who meet the eligibility criteria, JB Hunter Technology have been contracted to provide, free of charge, a career stream selection from the following qualification:
- ICT30208 - Certificate III Telecommunications
A
specific training plan will need to be conducted for each student to
ensure that their training needs and training package competency
requirements are met.
What Training is done?
There are two streams in this qualification, one enables a trainee on the completion of training to work inside buildings installing telephone and data systems. This area is normally called the Customers Premises.
The other specialises in cabling in the external environment, usually called the Customer Access Network (CAN).
A typical program might involve face to face training in the following areas:
- Open Cabler Registration (5 Days)
- Structured Cabling (2 Days)
- Optical Fibre Cabling (2 Days)
- Coaxial Cabling (1 Day)
- Joint Copper Cable (Short Course) (2 Days)
Plus completion of the following topics by self directed study:
- Occupational Health & Safety
- Safe Use of Tools
- Working in Teams
- Basic DC Principles for Telecommunications
Prior training and work experience – will it be recognised and reduce training time?
Yes, although each case is assessed separately on its own merits. If a claim is made, the recipient will need to provide documentary evidence such as Certificates, Statements of Attainment and or letters of work experience from past employers. The recipient may also be requested to undergo work tests to help verify their claim. If the claim is successful the recipient will be exempt from that part of the training.
